LOWNDES COUNTY, AL – One adult and one teen passenger were killed on Tuesday after a car collision with a tractor-trailer, WSFA 12 reports.
The driver of a GMC Sierra was traveling south on I-65 when it rear-ended a Freightliner tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the highway. Alabama State Troopers report that the collision took place at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, near mile marker 150.
The impact fatally injured two passengers at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Sierra was transported to a hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unknown.
There were slowdowns in traffic for several hours as the ALEA and local fire departments worked the scene. It’s unclear what caused the vehicle to strike the tractor-trailer.
