Narrative
OPELIKA, AL – A 21-year-old man died Thursday, and two others were injured in a wrong-way collision near Opelika.
The accident happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Lee County Road 166 near Lee County Road 116. This is southeast of Opelika and east of Beauregard.
Police say that a 2009 Ford Focus collided head-on with a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. It’s not yet clear which vehicle was headed the wrong-way at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Ford, identified as John A. Lucas, died after transport to an area hospital.
Medics transported the female driver of the Tahoe along with a 6-year-old passenger to a hospital in Opelika for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
