Narrative
MARION CO., AL – A 54-year-old cyclist died on Friday after a vehicle struck his bike along the highway in central Marion County.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. on US-278 just east of Hamilton. This is about 35 miles west of Bankhead National Forest.
Police say the GMC Sierra that hit the bicycle left the roadway, crashed into a tree, and caught fire, killing the driver. Authorities identified her as 61-year-old Carroll R. Parker.
The bicyclist, identified as Carl R. Blewett, also sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
A full investigation is underway.
